News reaches me that the Crown Publishing Group has acquired the rights to the non-fiction book by screenwriter David Jehar about the controversial physical medium ‘Margery’ Crandon.
According to Mr. Jehar the advance he was paid for his book was in the “high six figures.”
He said his book will tell the story of Harry Houdini’s campaign to discredit ‘Margery’, who made the front page of the New York Times in the 1920s as the controversy over her mediumship reached fever pitch.
The book depicts the real-life confrontation between the magician and the Boston medium, casting a light on a moment in history when science seemed on the verge of embracing the paranormal.
The book, unfortunately entitled The Witch of Lime Street, will be out in early 2010, Mr. Jehar said.
One hopes that this new book will not just cover the same old ground as previous books/articles on the Margery mediumship, and will offer new information and insights regarding this extraordinary woman.

November 23rd, 2008 at 8:03 pmI have always considered that there was more to Margery than the investigators would admit - scared of being laughed at and ridiculed. They had to maintain their reputations after all!
I shall look forward to its release. Interesting the author uses the term “discredit Margery” in his reference to Houdini. Hopefully this will mean that she will enjoy a more sympathetic hearing in this book and Houdini’s underhand tactics will be made clear.

January 6th, 2009 at 2:11 amHaving spoken with ‘Margery’s’ brother Walter Stinson,on numerous ocasions over the past few years, thanks to Stewart Alexander, and once to Mina herself, I trust any ‘new’ book will give the true facts. They have lost interest in what happened so many years ago and just want to get on with the future to help as many folks as possible to realise the truth of life eternal. Birdie’s book has already told Margery’s story - any other publication is only to make money for other people who did NOT experience the phenomena.

June 26th, 2009 at 11:49 amI use to be skeptical about psychic readings until I went to a psychic myself. For all those who are still skeptical, I would recommend to give it a try once.
